You know him as "Penn" of Penn & Teller; but when he's not doing illusions or uncovering hidden truths on "Bull$#!t!" you can read his novel "Sock". The story is about a police diver in NYC who finds an ex-girlfriend dead in the Hudson River; and his quest to find the killer. What makes this story interesting is the fact that it's told through the eyes of the cop's sock monkey named Dickie. With pop culture references that'll make Quentin Tarantino smile and funny & disturbing revelations that'll make sure you never drop that book, "Sock" is a must-read.
It kind of reminds me of something that Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Paranoia Agent) would direct.
