I feel it is a must to pay tribute to the master, Charles Dickens himself! Sadly I did not get into Dickens' work till my twenties as he was one of my mother's favorite writers and you know all that 'I can't like what my parents like' brew ha ha you go through as a kid. Since then i have come to regard him as one of my favorite authors. I've always had a fondness for A Christmas Carol but I've also come to adore Great Expectations, The Old Curiosity Shop, David Copperfield and Oliver to name a few. A funny story about David Copperfield and myself, my copy ended at 500 and some pages and then repeated itself. So I have to buy another copy to finish it. Imagine getting 500 pages into a book and not be able to finish! ;D

i'm reading Great Expectations right now, it's really amazing, i'd always put off reading Dickens because i had the crazy idea that older literature wouldn't be so relevant to now, and that the charcters would be too unbelievable...but it's astounding. Everyone should read the following books:
1. The Secret History by Donna Tartt 2. The Cider House Rules by John Irving 3. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller 4. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis 5. Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Great Expectations is, like, perfection. If i write a book half as good as that i'll be happy.

if you are having problems with book editions, try Italo Calvino's "If on a winter's night a traveller." It's ace and will make you read books in a different way, even dickens- pickwick papers?
